Golf Gin: the stories featured in our label illustration

Golf Gin's new illustration, carefully created by Ella Ginn (whose surname is a very happy coincidence for us!) is small in size but filled with lots of intricate detail.

The iconic Swilcan Bridge needs no explanation - it has stood firm on the 18th fairway of the Old Course for over 700 years and is believed to have been built to help shepherds move their livestock across the Swilcan Burn, the small stream that flows between the 1st and 18th fairways.

The sheep included in the illustration may not be quite as self-explanatory... Legend has it that the bunkers were originally hollowed out in the landscape by sheep huddling together for shelter from the harsh coastal winds, to which St Andrews is no stranger. Historically, sheep grazed on the Old Course to help maintain it but this has not happened in a long time. However, the course is still closed to golfers on a Sunday - a tradition dating back to the 16th century that's based on religious beliefs, with the only exception being for special tournaments, such as The Open, which will return to St Andrews in 2027.

At the base of the illustration, you'll be able to spot a key with room number 269 on it. Those of you who are golfing enthusiasts may know that Tiger Woods will only stay in room 269 at the Old Course Hotel when he visits St Andrews. The reason? When he played The Open in St Andrews back in 2000, he took exactly 269 strokes for him to win - his first ever victory at an Open Championship.

Dotted around the illustration are various nods to our botanicals, including seaweed, heather and lemon, to name a few. There's also a golf flag (for obvious reasons!) and last but not least, our striking three-peaked distillery which we printed in a shimmering golden hue.

We are immensely proud of our illustrations and all the stories they tell that link back to our hometown. We hope you love them as much as we do!
